2 days of building an online “wishing tree”- making bold claims about what will make a better future.
There are so many different ideas on what will bring forth the best possible future for humanity– better primary school education? Better transportation infrastructure? Slowing down AI development? Less social media?
Today, you might hold your ideas back for fear of starting controversy or not wanting to add to the soup of hot takes online. Maybe you feel like the problems we’re collectively facing are so big that your opinion doesn’t matter.
Even so, we’re inviting you to do it anyway- to take a risk with us, in hopes of changing the way important conversations unfold online.
On August 28-29, UpTrust is hosting on online conference- “A Future You Love.” A forum-style conference where you’re invited to make a claim about what would make the future better.
What is UpTrust?
UpTrust is creating a new online space for social sensemaking. It’s a site to
bring your unfinished perspectives, to
get less sensationalized updates on collective conversations, to
find collaborators across ideologies, and to
read the most credible perspectives from folks that both agree and disagree with you
How to Participate
This is an asynchronous, online conference. You’ll schedule a time to post your “future claim” so we can share a schedule with other attendees.
Pick a time to post your “future take” on UpTrust. We’ll ask for a short title or gist when you schedule.
Draft your claim. It can be a quick idea or a longer memo—whatever feels right.
Post at your scheduled time. You’ll get a calendar reminder to help you remember.
We’ll share a full schedule so others know when to check out your post and join the conversation.

A Future Take is your personal view about where the world is headed or where it could go if we changed course.
It can be a bold idea, a quiet hope, a real fear, or something you think more people should talk about.
You don’t need to be an expert. You can come with an unfinished idea or something you’re pondering.
Some examples:
“Jobs won’t define us in the future.”
“We should treat grief as a kind of activism.”
“All children should be homeschooled”
Not sure where to start? Try finishing one of these:
“I hope someday we stop pretending that ___.”
“If we keep going this way, ___ will happen.”
“I believe we could build a future where ___.”
Then ask yourself: Why do I believe that? What’s at the heart of it?
